What It Does

While concealed carry is prohibited at the vast majority of colleges and universities nationwide—either under state law or by school policy—the gun lobby has made it a priority in recent years to pass state laws requiring schools to allow guns on campus. Among those laws, some apply only in certain locations (e.g., not in classrooms) and for only certain permit holders (e.g., employees). A full discussion on The Dangers of Guns on College Campuses is here.

The Impact

Guns have no place at higher education institutions, which have high rates of suicidal ideation, mental illness, and drug and alcohol abuse. Schools where concealed carry is allowed have also seen a raft of unintentional shootings.
