2013 National Poll of Voters’ Attitudes Toward Common-Sense Gun Laws

by Mayors Against Illegal Guns

January 10, 2013

Following the mass shooting in Newtown, CT, Douglas Schoen LLC conducted a national survey on behalf of Mayors Against Illegal Guns to test voters’ attitudes toward a variety of common-sense gun laws proposed by state and federal officials. The survey showed that voters, including gun owners and NRA members, strongly supported a range of policy options under consideration. Among the reforms in question, 57% of Americans favored “removing the gun industry’s blanket grant of immunity from lawsuits so they can be held liable for gun violence like tobacco companies are for cigarettes causing cancer.” Additional key findings from the survey can be found here.
